Malanga & Shukriya - Music Review (Shivam Ahuja & Shraddha Shree)

Last year Max Life Insurance teamed up with Universal Music India for organising a contest called “I-Genius Young Singing Stars Competition” and the outcome of the contest were two young singers “Shraddha Shree” and “Mohit Ahuja” , both of them exceptionally talented!

First I will talk about Shivam Ahuja’s album which is titled “Malanga.” The music of the album has been provided by Gulraj Singh and lyrics are by Manoj Yadav. The first song “Purwaiyya” is a duet which features both Shivam and Shraddha.Shivam’s voice has a husky tone and slowly grows on you as you listen to it for a couple of times.Talking about the song,it’s prelude is soothing and breezing which amazingly turns into a beautiful song that is full of energy! A “bang-on” opening track!Perfect opportunity to flaunt the vocals and Shivam grabs it with both his hands! The next song is Bairi Bajrangi that is full of some divine ,philosophical lyrics and the way Shivam handles it is commendable. There is also a reprise version of the song which belongs to Gulraj Singh completely! The reprise version has got some beautiful piano based instrumentation which enhances it’s beauty. The next track to follow is the title trackMalanga ,which is your typical filmy song that you will enjoy for sure .It’s reprise version is also fantastic and the chorus that plays towards the end in both the songs is wonderful.

Now I will talk about Shraddha Shree’s album titledShukriya. It also opens with the track “Purwaiyaa” and by the time the song is over you are completely awestruck by the maturity that she exhibits through her vocals! I was really shocked that how can a young singer bring so much maturity but as they say , “ Talent knows no age.” The next track to follow is “Shukriya” which belongs not only to Shraddha but also to Gulraj. His music is very engaging. The reprise version of the song is again based on piano instrumentation and is a sheer delight to listen.Shraddha’s voice gets more mature and powerful in “Khuda Mere” where she sings the alaaps and a wonderful antara with ease! The reprise version is equally awesome providing a new dimension to the song!Sheer grandeur!
Overall I would like to say that you must listen to both albums! I am definitely sure that you will love them.

Rating – Well I don’t think any rating or picks should be given because this is a special album! Both of them are young ,talented singers who deserve your love and appreciation. So give them all your love and appreciation and support them by listening and buying the album! Also kudos to Universal Music  and Max India Life Insurance for providing them such a wonderful platform! We all are thankful to you for providing us with such supremely talented singers!

Sholay (Special Collectors Edition Review)

*NOTE-  This is not a critical review.I don’t think any critic or blogger can ever review the masterpiece “Sholay” or even it’s soundtrack. These are just the opinions of an afficionado !

                    **************************************

Well there are some movies that are good , some that are perfect and some which are even more than perfect and thus with the passage of time ,gain a cult status among the audience. But there is a movie which has even surpassed the cult status benchmark and has become a masterpiece of Indian Cinema! The movie is *DRUMROLLS* , “Sholay.” It is more than a movie! It's a celebration!

This year “Sholay” completed it’s 40th Anniversary on 15 August! So to celebrate this Universal Music India , one of the leading music labels of our country, paid a very special tribute to the classic by releasing a special album, a 2- CD set that not only features all the songs from the movie but also the terrific dialogues! Yes the same songs that you used to sing when you were in school with your friends, in the college canteen, during night outs and where not!The anthem of friendship! (“Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge”).The same songs and dialogues that you used to set as ringtones and caller tunes ,ignoring the latest music that was available, the same dialogues for which you used to watch the entire movie again and again whenever it was telecasted on TV! You even tolerated the long and monotonous commercials just to make sure you don’t miss any of the iconic dialogues! (‘Kitne Aadmi The!”)

For all you “Sholay-Maniacs” here comes a special gift from Universal Music! All that has been compiled on a single album which features ALL, yes believe me when I say this, all the legendary dialogues by "Salim - Javed" and also the soundtrack that was composed by the great maestro "RD Burman" and has been regarded as one of the finest soundtracks Indian cinema has ever produced.

One thing which I liked a lot was the quality that was offered! I mean really while listening to the songs and the dialogues I was not able to believe that this was recorded way back in 1975!Also another thing which I liked a lot was the fact that finally I am having an original audio CD of Sholay! I am a collector myself and trust me it’s hard to find old classics but thanks to Universal Music for re-releasing it and that too in a limited edition!

Also I would like to convey special thanks to them because in today’s time most of the music labels care only about their commercial interests and focus on the latest so called “catchy” music but Universal Music takes care that along with the latest releases, the Classics also get celebrated in a special manner! This reflects their passion and love for music! Kudos to you guys! Keep up the good work! We are proud of you!

So guys you should definitely not miss this opportunity and should rush to your nearest music stores and get yourself a copy of this iconic album! You can also download the songs from iTunes and can stream them on Gaana and Saavn.

Author’s Note – As you know it’s a limited edition set so I personally recommend you to get the audio CD since they carry a lot of value among collectors because they are rare to find!

Brothers Music Review - (Ajay-Atul)

"Mera Naam Marry" is your same old Bollywood typical item number with raunchy lyrics."Sapna Jahaan" by Sonu Nigam is fantastic in every sense."Gaaye Ja" to some extent works with it's soothing instrumentation .I liked Shreya's version more as compared to Irfan's."Brothers Anthem" as the name suggests,is your inspirational and title track of the movie sung perfectly by Vishal Dadlani and a haunting and catching melody makes sure you don't forget and ignore the song easily.Overall a nice ,short and sweet album!

Rating- 3 Stars
