The album
opens with a fantastic “Alaap” that is 11 minutes long and sets the tone for
the whole album. The song offers an interesting “Jugal-Bandi” between the sitar and the tabla.
The next
song to follow is “Jod,Jhala."It is 10 minutes long and is based upon “Raga
Jogeshwari.” It’s also good and some parts especially at 2:40,7:23 will give
you Goosebumps! That’s the best part of classical music,it touches you from the inside!
Another
divine song is “Gat in Rupaktaal” which is the longest in terms of duration (in
“Raga Jogeshwari”).The song is 15 minutes long and is a beautiful combination
of Sitar,Tabla and Tanpura! It’s one of the highlights of the album.
Now the
second part of the album is based on “Raga Manj Khamaj” and comprises of my
favourite song i.e. “Aaochar,Dadra,Teentaal,Coda.”The song is the longest in
the whole album ( being 18 minutes and 26 seconds).I particularly am inclined
towards this raga because I find it quite fast paced as compared to “Raga
Jogeshwari” and also Tabla dominates in the whole
rhythm which I find
appeasing!
Overall a fantastic
album by the “Grammy-Nominated” artist! Definitely worth a buy and even if you
are not into listening classical music ,you must give it a try!It will develop
your taste and appetite for it!
Note – The CD
booklet includes a beautifully penned treatise on Indian Classical music
written by Pandit Ravi Shankar in 1965 , so make it a point to definitely grab
the CD as it’s a limited edition!
